나석주는 1910년 약관의 나이에 동지들과 중국으로 집단 망명하여 독립운동에 투신하려 했으나 체포되어 옥고를 치렀다. 3ㆍ1운동 이후 1920~21년에는 황해도 일원에서 독립운동 자금 모집과 밀정 처단활동을 벌였다. 1924년 중국 상해에서 대한민국 임시정부 경무국 경호원과 경무국장을 맡아 임시정부의 보위에 힘썼다. 그는 몸을 내던지는 직접적인 의열항쟁을 지향하였다. 이를 위해 의열단, 병인의용대, 다물단 등 의열투쟁 단체에 관계하며 투쟁방안을 모색하였다. 1925년에는 다물단과 연계하여 독자적으로 국내 의열투쟁을 추진하였다. 국내로 침투하여 동양척식주식회사 등 일제 착취기관을 폭파할 계획이었으나, 운동 자금 부족으로 좌절되었다. 결국 1926년 김창숙의 자금 지원에 힘입어 동양척식주식회사와 식산은행에 폭탄을 던지고 자결 순국하였다. 1926년 나석주의 투탄의거는 의열단원으로 추진한 것이다. 그러나 의열단의 의열투쟁 계획에 따라 추진된 것은 아니다. 그가 1925년부터 계획해 오던 국내 의열투쟁의 연장선상에서 봐야한다. 그는 끊임없이 자신의 온 몸을 조국 독립의 제단에 바치기를 갈망했고, 이를 실천에 옮겼다. 우리 의열투쟁사에서 그의 활동이 돋보이는 이유이다.

In 1910, Na Seok-ju at the age of 20 fled to China with his colleagues to devote himself to the Independence Movement and yet got arrested and jailed. After the March 1st Movement from 1920 to 1921, Seok-ju in Hwanghae province of Korea helped to raise Independent funds and to punish the conspirators with the Japanese colonial rulers of Korea. In 1924, he as a bodyguard and a chief police of the Provisional Government of Korea strived to protect the security of Korean Provisional Government. He supported active Heroic struggles, sacrificing one’s body and life for Korean Independence. To this end, he allied with different forms of Heroic organization such as Heroic Corps, Byeong-In Volunteer Corps, Damuldan and etc. and sought for the ways of revolutionary uprising. In 1925, he aligned with Damuldan, the major Korean anarchist organization in Beijing, and autonomously carried forward Heroic struggles. He planned to destroy the organizations set up by Imperial Japan such as the Oriental Development Company. However, his plan failed due to the lack of funds. Finally, in 1926 with the help of Kim Chang-suk’s financial support Seok-ju carried out the attack and threw a bomb at Oriental Development Company and Choson Bank. After carrying out the attack, he killed himself. Na Seok-ju’s patriotic deed in 1926 was carried out as a member of Heroic struggles. Yet, his action was not driven by the plan of Heroic Corps. Rather, his action should be seen in an extension of his domestic Heroic struggles since 1925. Na Seok-ju constantly longed to devote his entire life for the Korean Independence, and he put it in action. For such a reason, his action stands out in our history of Heroic struggles.
