A comparative analysis of the Russian Federation regions based on the exports and imports commodity structure in terms of foreign trade development under conditions of crisis
Subject This article deals with the issues of formation of clusters of the Russian Federation regions in terms of the commodity structure of exports and imports. Objectives The article aims to identify groups of regions of Russia characterized by the effective development of foreign trade in goods and services. Methods For the study, we used a cluster analysis and the Russian regions' official statistics on foreign trade in goods and services. Results The article identifies four specific clusters of the Russian Federation regions and describes their characteristics. Conclusions and Relevance The article concludes about significant changes in the regions and their uneven development. The results of the study help identify regions characterized by effective foreign trade in goods and services. They also can be used to determine the prospects for the development of the regions' foreign economic activity.
