Abstract

Eleven fission-track ages of zircons from pyroclastic flow deposits in southern Kyushu have been determined by the external detector method. The ages of the pyroclastic flows are as follows: Akune 1, 1.9±0.3 (±2 σ) m. y.; Kushikino, 1.7±0.4 m. y.; Izumi B, 1.7±0.3 m. y.; Izumi D, 1.5±0.2 m. y.; Akune 2, 1.5±0.2 m. y.; Hayato, 0.9±0.3 m. y.; Lower Kakuto, 0.3±0.1 m. y.; Shomyoji Tuff, 0.21±0.11 m. y.; Ata, 0.039±0.024 m. y.; Aira II, <0.058 m. y. A preliminary stratigraphic section of southern Kyushu based on these and previously-reported fission-track ages and paleomagnetic data is shown.
