초록

In recent years, the study of ritual and its role in the modern society of mainland China has made great progress. However, from a methodological point of view, most of these studies are "content biased" studies. They usually try to uncover what's behind ritual using the anthropological and sociological methods prevalent in the 20th century in the West. At the same time, it limits the role of ritual in modern society as much as possible. More importantly, today's ethical life seems to pay more attention to how to live than to what kind of life. The meaning of ritual, which was difficult for us to find due to its abstract meaning and independent value, seems to be of little importance to today's ethical life. Confucian so-called rituals are not simply religious or ethical actions, but rather artistic actions, artistic actions in life, a rhythmic dance that expresses the true feelings inside. Confucius etiquette practice can be broadly understood as such a rhythmic dance that expresses inner feelings, as seen in the ‘parable of Confucius and a life of Confucius with rhythm and order, fits more into the ideal of the art of life than a life in pursuit of novelty and excitement advocated by postmodern philosophers. So if our postmodern era has really entered the age of aesthetics of ethical living and people have made life a work of art in life, ritual can play a greater role in this ethical pursuit.
