This study investigates the transition of population movement and population centroid in Korea. The trend of population concentration in Seoul and the metropolitan area and the tendency in time series of internal migration were analyzed. The transition of population center was investigated by computing the population centroid in Korea and the metropolitan city. This study used the internal migration statistics and the population and housing census data in Statistics Korea. In the 1980s, the total population movements relative to the national population were 23.1% and it has been steadily decreasing since 2006 and down to 14% in 2017. The population center of Korea has been continuing to the north since 1955, but it has shifted to Northwest direction since 1985 and is moving towards the capital region. In recent years, the population center of Korea in 2015 has shown a dramatic decrease in migration to the north.
