This study tries to grasp a woman’s place in the discourse of scientific motherhood in Korea through the TV drama Birth care Center. The drama sets the birth care center as a place that maximizes scientific motherhood and forces women to become “perfect” mothers. The scientific superiority of breastfeeding, various professional methods of child-rearing, and supplementary products supporting rearing are regarded as the mother’s basic responsibilities in the birth care center, forced on mothers under the name of ‘Scientific Motherhood’. The basis for classifying the rank of mothers in the center is based on who has more 'Scientific Motherhood' and how much they can sacrifice for their child. This drama maximized the representation of scientific motherhood through setting of background, the finest birth care center. The real birth care center culture, child-rearing, and products used in this drama can show the status of scientific motherhood in Korea. Women should become ‘perfect mothers’ through continuous self-capacity-building in society where motherhood is excessively commercialized and standardized. This pressure puts women under control and makes them management objects. In this situation, it is necessary to think about where the identity of women as 'mother' exists.
