이 연구에서는 부산의 이미지를 구축하고 있는 산복도로와 해운대 또는 산복도로와 해운대의 결합이 갖는 상징적 의미에 대한 분석을 시도한다. 이 두 곳은 상반된 이미지로 결합되어 부산의 지리체(geo-body)를 구성하고 있으며, 한국이 갖는 내부 오리엔탈리즘을 엮어내는 사회적 공간들로 기능한다. 즉, 부산의 내부에서 산복도로는 해운대의 타자로 기능한다. 부산의 근대적 기원에 해당하는 원도심임에도 불구하고 그동안 낙후와 외면의 대상이었던 산복도로는 해운대의 성공을 그려내기 위한 재발명된 풍광이 된다. 세계도시라는 부산이 갖는 글로벌적 스펙터클의 자신감을 보여주기 위한 과거에 해당되는 것이다. 한국내부에서 산복도로와 해운대의 결합은 서울과 중앙의 부정적 타자로 기능한다. 산복도로와 해운대의 결합으로서 지방도시 부산의 풍광은 한국의 부정적 요소를 엿보는 불편한 공간이 된다. 동시에 서구자본주의에 대한 선망과 모방의 심리를 충족시키는 관광지의 탄생이기도 하다. 산복도로의 남루함과 해운대의 비정함은 한국의 급속한 경제적 변화의 모순을 껴안는 공간이자 이국적 관광지로 소비되는 것이다. 산복도로와 해운대는 글로벌리즘의 자기 내면화와 병행된다. 부산의 세계도시발전전략은 경제적인 지역발전전략이지만, 주로 글로벌리즘이라는 환상을 지탱하는 공간을 만들어내는데 집중한다. 도시재생이라는 반대편의 글로벌리즘 채용 또한, 부산이 우리를 지배하고 우리의 환상을 만족시켜 주는 ‘서구와의 닮아감’을 그대로 드러내는 곳이 된다.
This study attempts to analyse the symbolic meaning of the combination of Sanbok Roads (the roads in the middle of mountain) and Haeundae. The combination of two spaces seems to be the contrary or inconsistent of images, but it is also showing the composed geographic politics(geo-body) in Busan, First of all, this combination of Sanbok Roads and Haeundae would be the space for the analysis of internal orientalism: the inside of Busan, Sanbok Roads will be the other, whereas Haeundae has converted as the subject; the inside of Korea, the combination of Sanbok Roads and Haeundae as the internal otherness, whereas Seoul or the central would be captured the position of the internal subject; in relation to global space, the combination of Sanbok Roads and Haeundae turned to be the token for the Korean success of global capitalism. The space of two places could be working for the internal orentalism of Korea.
