The present study aimed to investigate the longitudinal transition an adolescent’s teacher, peer and parents’ relationship profiles, as well as differences in self-determined motivation and academic self-concept among profile groups. The samples consisted of 6544 adolescents in grade 6, who were re-examined in one year, as they made the transition to middle school. The data were part of waves 2 and 3 of the nationally representative Korea Education Longitudinal Study 2013(KELS 2013). A latent profile analysis identified four distinct profiles of teacher, peers and parents’ relationships among students in grade 6(high, average, low, and low-teacher relationships). The four distinct profiles in grade 7(high, average, low, and low-peer relationships). High relationships groups, in both grade 6 and 7, showed the highest level of intrinsic and identified regulation, and academic self-concept, but the lowest level of extrinsic regulation and amotivation. By applying a latent transition analysis, it was found that almost half of the students remained the same profile in one year (about 46~63%), whereas others made transitions to different profiles of either better or worse relationships with teachers, peers, and parents. Implications for future research and intervention were discussed.
