미술감상교육의 유추능력 증진 효과와 시각적 사고 전략(VTS)의 교과과정화 방안 연구

A Study of the Impact of Art Appreciation Education on Analogical Reasoning Ability and Application of Visual Thinking Strategy

본 연구는 미래 핵심역량의 필수요소인 유비적 추론능력(유추능력) 신장을 위한 융합적 교수법 연구의 일환으로서 주요 이론 및 실질적 사례에 근거하여 미술감상교육의 효과와 학교에서의 구체적 적용 방안을 제시한다. 이론적 배경으로는 유비추론과 유추전이 과정 및 시각화의 과학과의 상관관계를 살펴본 후 미적 지각과 체험 효과를 높이기 위한 교수 방법으로서의 Broudy의 미적 정사(esthetic scanning), 그리고 Housen의 미적 발달단계를 포함한 VTS의 이론적 배경과 원리를 고찰한다. 실질적 사례로는 의학 분야에서 시행된 예일대학교 의과대학의 통합적 관찰력 및 유추력 향상과 미술감상교육과의 연관성에 관한 연구, 뇌의 활성화와 미술감상의 밀접한 연관성을 뇌영상기술(fMRI)로 입증한 사례 및 데페이즈망을 이용한 미술작품감상과 뇌의 활성화에 대한 뇌신경미학 선행 연구 사례를 고찰한다. 그러나 이와 같은 다분야적 연구를 통해 미술감상교육의 효과가 증명되어 왔음에도 불구하고 현장 교수자들의 지도 방법과 이해의 부족 등으로 인해 이를 학교 현장에서 적극적으로 실천하는 데에 어려움이 있다. 이에 따라 뉴욕 현대미술관(MoMA)과 인지심리학자들이 고안한 시각적 사고 전략(Visual Thinking Strategy: VTS)의 활용방안에 대해 살펴본다. VTS는 비교적 쉬운 형식과 방법에 비해 사고력과 유추능력 발달 효과는 상당히 높은 수준으로 밝혀졌고 국내외에서 그 원리가 도입되고 있기 때문이다. 마지막으로 VTS의 원리와 실천 사례 분석을 통해 교과과정화를 위한 개선점을 검토하여 미술감상교육을 현 학교의 상황에 맞추어 사고력 발달에 효과적으로 적용할 수 있는 방향을 제언하고자 한다.

This study aims to demonstrate the impact of art appreciation education on analogical reasoning ability as a future competency based on the practical and theoretical approaches. First, this study examines major preceding researches in medicine and cerebral neuroesthetics to present practical and scientific grounds of the effects of art appreciation that stimulates power of observation and brain working memory, an integral factor of analogical reasoning. Next, considering teachers difficulties to actively apply art appreciation education in schools because of the lack of understanding of the methods and principles of art appreciation education, this study proposes Visual Thinking Strategy(VTS) contrived through the collaboration of MoMA in New York and cognitive psychologists, as a effective method. With an analysis of a good example of VTS approach, this study conclusively looks for improvement aspects of VTS as well to be applied in school curricula in order to efficiently and creatively strengthen future core competencies of learners.
