동화에 나타난 비장애형제의 장애형제에 대한 인식

Non-disabled siblings’ perceptions of their disabled siblings shown in fairy tales

동화 속 장애인과 주변인의 이야기는 독자들의 장애인관에 영향을 미치므로 장애 인식개선 교육에 빈번하게 활용된다. 이 연구는 장애인과 가장 밀접하게 상호작용하는 가족 구성원인 비장애형제의 장애형제에 대한 인식이 동화에서 어떻게 나타나는지 분석하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 장애인식개선 권장도서 가운데 장애인과 그의 비장애형제와의 이야기가 주요 내용인 초등학생용 동화책 12권을 선정하여 질적 분석 하였다. 그 결과 6가지 주제가 도출되었다: 1) 슈퍼맨처럼 지켜주어야 하는 장애형 제, 2) 엄마처럼 돌봐주어야 하는 장애형제, 3) 친구관계의 변화를 가져오는 장애형 제, 4) 부끄럽지만 사랑하는 장애형제, 5) 일찍 철이 들게 만드는 장애형제, 6) 아무리 성공했어도 불쌍한 장애형제. 결론적으로 동화 속 비장애형제의 장애형제에 대한 인식은 현실에서 비장애형제들이 겪는 심리적 어려움 및 갈등과 매우 흡사한 것으로 나타났다. 각 주제에 대한 논의가 비장애형제 지원과 관련되어 이루어졌으며, 장애를 다룬 문학작품에서 전형성을 탈피한 형제 관계가 묘사될 필요성을 제기하였다.

A fairy tale is widely used to enhance for understanding of disabilities. People with disabilities and their surrounding people depicted in the fairy tale have an impact on how we view disability. The aim of this study is to analyze non-disabled siblings’ perceptions of their disabled siblings shown in fairy tales. A total of twelve fairy tales were selected and analyzed qualitatively. Six themes emerged from the data analysis in regards to the research question. In the fairy tales, disabled siblings were described by their non-disabled siblings as: (1) people who need protection, (2) people who need to be taken care of, (3) people who change my relationships with friends, (4) people whom I love but I am ashamed of, (5) people who make me mature, (6) poor people no matter how successful they become. To conclude, the fairy tales well reflect realty where non-disabled siblings experience psychological difficulties and conflicts because of their disabled siblings. In literature, it needs to eschew the typical notions of the relationship between disabled and non-disabled siblings. The ways to support non-disabled siblings, in regards to each theme, were also provided.
