Even though parents play an important role in promoting their child’s physical activity, studies in South Korea provide inconsistent results. Thus, the purpose of the current study has twofold: to examine the association between parent-related variables and their child’s physical activity by using the meta-analysis approach and to examine moderator variables including parental support, child’s age, and measures of child’s physical activity. A team consisting of three independent researcher followed Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis(PRISMA) guidelines. After conducting the review, 15 studies were finally included in the current meta-analysis. The overall exploratory effect size for the association between parent-related variables and child’s physical activity was calculated. The moderators were categorized by following the criteria: types of parenting support(support, behaviors, parenting style and attitude), child age(>10, <11), and measures (times, behaviors). The results indicated that the overall exploratory effect indicates the following: r=.14, 95% CI [.10 - .19], p < .001. Moreover, types of parent supporting and child’s age were significant moderators. Among the four types of parent supporting, attitude towards child’s physical activity had the highest effect size(r=.37, 95% CI [.25 - .47], p < .001). Studies including children aged above 10 showed higher effect size(r=.19, 95% CI [.13 - .27], p < .001) compared to studies including children aged below 11. As the current meta-analysis examined the overall exploratory effect size for the association between parent-related variables and child’s physical activity, it provides important information. In addition, the associated moderators were confirmed. Therefore, the results of the current study can be used as building blocks for developing parent-mediated physical activity intervention for children.
