본 연구의 목적은 한국사회의 이름 짓기에서 큰 비중을 점유하고 있는 수리성명학이 성명에 대한 사회적 기층심리에 대응하면서 올바르게 적용되도록 학문적 체계를 공고히 하는 데에 있다. 이를 위해 한국사회 수리성명학의 기원이 되는 구마사키의 성명학에 대한 그의 저서 『성명의 신비(姓名の神?)』를 해석하여 현존하는 한국사회의 수리성명학과 비교 분석하였다. 그 결과 한자 이름의 획수계산법과 한국식으로 변형된 4격 수리가 구마사키의 오격부상법과 상이(相異)하였고 특히 사람의 중년기 이후 성명 운세 판단에서 차이점을 찾을 수 있었다. 따라서 한자 이름 획수 계산법은 강희자전(康熙字典)에 원칙을 두어 정자(正字)로 계산하고, 원래의 부수로 획수를 계산하는 원획법(元劃法)을 제안한다. 그리고 4격과 오격부상법을 비교 검토한 후 이치에 적합한 수리성명학으로써 학문적 체계를 갖추고 활용할 수 있도록 정리 방법을 모색하였다.

The objective of this study is to strengthen the academic system relating to the Mathematical Naiming Science(MNS), which is one of the most widely used naming technologies in the Korean society, through finding the right way to have it properly applied in the Korean society. For this purpose, the analysis and interpretations of the Kumasaki Genoh's book titled “Mystery of Naming”, which is known as the origins of the Korean style MNS, were made in this Thesis and compared those interpretations with the current Korean style MNS. As a result, the discrepancies between the calculation method of the number of strokes in a Chinese character together with the numeric of Four Forms modified in Korean style and Kumasaki Genoh’s Form of Five Cases were found. and, in particular, there were lots of differences in telling the fortune of the human-beings in middle aged or older. Accordingly, it is proposed that the method of the calculation of the number of strokes in a Chinese character is to follow the rule of the Kangxi Dictionary. The abbrevated Chinese character should be converted into the full character for the calculation of the number of the strokes. Through the analysis of and the comparison between Four Forms and Form of Five Cases, the approaches how to utilize those results to enhance the academic system of the logically acceptable MNS are appropriately proposed in this Thesis.
