본 연구는 시대의 창이라고도 할 수 있는 대중가요를 통해 1960년대 일본사회의 대중들의 정서를 살펴보기 위한 것이다. 본고에서는 1960년대를 초기, 중기, 후기로 나누고 각 시기별 사회적 상황과 대표적인 대중가요에 담긴 대중들의 정서와 관련성을 살펴보았다. 일본의 1960년대는 전후(戰後)에서 현재에 이르기까지 가장 역동적인 시기였다. 이 시기는 초기 정치적 혼란이 수습되고 소득배증이라는 경제적 과제로의 방향선회에 이어 과제는 순조롭게 진행되었다. 중기는 1964년 도쿄올림픽과 함께 국민적 통합과 그러한 분위기에 편승한 교육현장의 보수화가 진행되었다. 후기에는 고도성장의 후유증으로 사회문제가 대두되었고, 역동적인 사회분위기에 대한 비판의식이 싹텄다. 이러한 사회상황을 담아낸 7개의 대중가요가 본 연구의 분석 대상이다. 그리고 이 가요들이 각 시기의 맥락 속에서 사회상황과의 접점을 통해 어떻게 당대의 정서를 담고 있는지 살펴보았다. 그와 같은 분석작업을 통해 이 가요들에 당대의 사회적 상황과 이슈가 대중의 정서에 깊게 스며있음을 알 수 있었다. 이 연구는 제한적인 텍스트 분석의 한계가 있으나, 일본사회에 접근하고 이해하는 데는 정치 혹은 경제담론 영역 못지않게 유용한 도구가 될 것이다. 교육적인 활용 참고가 되었으면 하는 바람이다.
The purpose of this study is to examine the public sentiments of Japanese society in the 1960s through popular songs that can be called the window of the times. In this paper, we divide the 1960s into early, middle, and late periods and examined the social situation of each period and the public sentiment and relevance in representative popular songs. Japan’s 1960s was the most dynamic period from postwar to present. In this period, the initial political upheaval was resolved and the task was smoothly followed by turning to the economic task of doubling income. In the mid-term, the 1964 Tokyo Olympics and national integration and the conservation of the educational scene were carried on. In the latter period, social problems emerged due to the aftermath of high growth, and a critical awareness of the dynamic social atmosphere sprang up. The analysis of this study is based on seven popular songs that reflect the social situation. And I examined how these songs contain contemporary sentiments through the contact with the social situation in the context of each period. Through such analysis, we can see that the contemporary social situation and issues permeate the public sentiments. Although this study has limitations on limited text analysis, approaching and understanding Japanese society will be as useful tool as political or economic discourse area. I hope it will be a useful reference for educational purposes.
