کشش‌های عاطفی و عقلانیت ایمان و باور دینی از دیدگاه ویلیام جیمز

چکیده

ایمان دینی از ابعاد و زوایای مختلفی قابل تأمل و تحلیل عقلانی است. یکی از ابعاد ایمان که در سدة اخیر بیشتر مورد توجه بخشی از متفکرین قرار گرفته است، بعد عاطفی و ارادی آن است. ویلیام جیمز، فیلسوف معروف آمریکایی از کسانی است که در برخی از کتابهای خودش بخصوص مقاله « اراده معطوف به باور» به این موضوع پرداخته است. او با بیان تفاوت‌های موجود میان باور دینی و دیگر باورها و اهمیت خطیر و حیاتی این دسته از باورها به نقد دیدگاه قرینه گرایان می‌پردازد و نشان می‌دهد که دخالت اراده و عواطف و احساسات در این نوع از باورها، به عقلانیت ایمان دینی صدمه‌ای وارد نمی‌سازد. در این مقاله گزارش تحلیلی از دیدگاه وی در این زمینه ارائه شده است.

Religious faith can be thought and analyzed reasonably from different aspects and dimensions. One of them is the emotional dimension, discussed by some thinkers, among whom is William James, the American famous philosopher. Dealing with this dimension in some of his writings, especially in "The Will to Belief", James clarifies the difference between religious beliefs as well as criticizes the views of Evidentialism. He shows that rationality of religious faith can not be damaged by interfering of will and emotional feelings. The paper presents an analytical account of James' viewpoint in this regard.
