Abstract

ERS researchers examined differences in food expenditures and calories acquired in 2012-13 by two groups of low-income households. The researchers found that on a per adult equivalent basis, low-income food-insecure households spent almost $13 less on at-home foods and acquired 5,170 fewer calories from at-home foods per week than low-income food-secure households.
