Abstract

Woven polypropylene fabrics were impregnated with hydroxy-anthraquinone (HAQ) derivatives compounds by supercritical carbon dioxide where the HAQ worked as a dyestuff. The HAQ-impregnated fabrics were tested to adsorb metal ions dissolved in water forming the “dye-metal chelate” under specific conditions of pH for one selected metal ion. The metal ions are believed to be trapped around the HAQ molecules by the hydroxyl groups, working as a mordant dyeing.
