Possibilities of non-invasive determination of the stage of liver fibrosis in patients with chronic viral hepatitis C and metabolic syndrome

The objective. To develop a method of noninvasive determination of the stage of liver fibrosis in patients with chronic viral hepatitis C and metabolic syndrome based on clinical and laboratory data.

Patients and methods. We examined 152 patients with chronic viral hepatitis C and metabolic syndrome. Standard clinical and laboratory methods were supplemented by determination of the following parameters: composition of lymphocyte subpopulations, immune status, adiponectin.

Results. Based on discriminant analysis of the findings of examination of patients we developed an analytical model of interval assessment of fibrosis severity in patients with chronic viral hepatitis C and metabolic syndrome. The accuracy index for diagnosing liver fibrosis stages with the help of the developed model is 85%, which permits to use this model in clinical practice.

Conclusion. The proposed method permits to determine the severity of liver fibrosis in patients with chronic viral hepatitis C and metabolic syndrome without histological verification.

Key words: chronic viral hepatitis С, metabolic syndrome, adiponectin, fibrosis.
