Abstract: The pathogenesis of pain-related diseases is “pain if it is not unblocked, and pain if it is not nurtured”. “Pain if it is not unblocked” can be manifested as the blockage of qi due to various causes, which in turn leads to poor circulation of qi and blood, and obstructs the muscles and veins of the limbs. As a result, “pain if it is not nurtured” can be caused by deficiency of qi and blood, and loss of nourishing body muscles and veins, and the treatment should follow “no pain if it is unblocked, and no pain if it is nurtured”. The pathogenesis of excess pain-related diseases is the poor circulation of qi and blood. The liver controls the qi and regulates the qi in the body. The normal operation of qi and blood depends on the normal function of the liver. Therefore, Professor Cheng Choufu uses the idea of “treating the liver for all pains” to treat excess pain-related diseases in clinical practice. This article explored the clinical experience of Professor Cheng Choufu in treating headache, chest pain and heartache, stomach pain and other diseases with the theory of “treating the liver for all pains” by combining with the medical cases.
