Abstract

The aim of the work was the development of bioactive titanium implant coatings, which are able to increase the implant tissue interaction. The incorporation of drugs should additionally advance the wound healing by a controlled release. Different phosphonate, phosphate and sulfonate functionalized polymeric nanoparticles and capsules were synthesized via the miniemulsion technique as coating material. The adhesion forces on metal oxide surfaces were determined by force-distance-measurements with AFM. From the obtained force-distance-measurements it could clearly be seen that the presence of phosphonate groups on the particle surface leads to highly increased adhesion forces between the particles and different metal oxide surfaces. Cell experiments with HeLa cells and MSCs showed that the viability and the differentiation behavior were not affected by the particles. For an effective release of hydrophobic drugs different phosphonate functionalized biodegradable polymeric particles were synthesized in widespread synthesis routes. For the encapsulation of hydrophilic compounds functionalized polymeric capsules with a liquid aqueous core were synthesized in an inverse miniemulsion system.
