본고는 장덕조의『地下女子大學』이 당대의 섹슈얼리티를 형성하는 일련의 서사적 장치를 내재하고 있다는 특수성에 집중하여 문학의 자장안에서 탁월하게 행사된 부분을 집중적으로 고찰하였다. 사회적 구성물로서의 근대화 과정에서 권력화된 섹슈얼리티를 넘어 섹슈얼리티의 타자성이 사랑, 욕망 등을 통해 표출되는 다양한 스펙트럼의 발견은 대중문학의 공과(功過)를 모색하는 유용한 작업이라고 할 수 있으며 그 내용은 다음과 같다.
장덕조의 『地下女子大學』은 <청청장>이라는 요정을 무대로 사건을 서사화하고 있으나, 육체의 교환을 담보로 하는 여타의 작품들과 차별성을 지니고 있다는 점에서 『地下女子大學』의 중요한 가치를 보여준다. 성을 알레고리화하여 남성주체의 성의식과 여성타자의 성의식이 상호충돌하면서 조우하는 혼종성을 보여준다. 가부장적 관점이 성과 소비를 통제하는 지배담론의 구조속에서 성적주체로서 다양한 담론주체를 생산하고 재현하는 장덕조 소설의 내적 특질은 60년대 여성인물의 성의식을 가장 적확하게 보여준다. 『地下女子大學』은 60년 후반 여성의 근대적 자각을 옹호하고 자본주의적 속물성과 봉건적 관습을 비판하고 있다. 『地下女子大學』에서 장덕조 소설의 가치를 발견할 수 있는 중요한 종착점은 여성주체가 확보하는 섹슈얼리티의 인식이며 육체의 경제적 효용에 대한 객관적 조망이다.
신가부장적 이데올로기가 만연하고 경제논리가 우선시 되는 60년대 자본시장 아래서 여성의 정조는 교환 가능한 상품의 가치로 평가되었다. 이는 사회·문화·정치적 분위기가 여성의 ‘교양화’를 요구했던 60년대 연예담론과도 일치한다. 『地下女子大學』의 ‘섹슈얼리티’는 이러한 경향을 내포하고 있다. 地下女子大學』은 ‘섹슈얼리티’의 다양성을 통해 대중문학의 미학적 속성과 더불어 근저에 작용하는 ‘윤리의식’ 및 평온하지 못한 사회의 조류에 치열하게 항거하는 당대 ‘작가의 의식’을 조망할 수 있다.
This study focuses on the distinct characteristic that “Underground Women’s College” by Deok-jo Jang involves a series of narrative mechanism which form the sexuality of the time and intensively examined the part which was exercised outstandingly within the context of literature. The finding of a variety of spectrums through which the otherness of sexuality is expressed through love, desire, and so forth is a useful work of seeking merits and demerits of popular literature and its contents are as follows; While “Underground Women’s College” narrates the event through a classical Korean restaurant called ‘Cheongjeongjang’, it shows an important value of “Underground Women’s College” for the fact that it is differentiated from other works which put up the exchange of body as security. It shows the hybridity where sexuality is allegorized and the sexual consciousness of men and that of other women confront each other. The inner qualities of Jang’s novel, which produces and rekindles various subjects of discourse as sexual subjects within the structure of dominant discourse where patriarchal view controls sex and consumption, show the sexual consciousness of the women figures in the 1960’s very well. “Underground Women’s College” advocates the modern self-awareness of women in the 1960’s and criticizes the capitalist fallacy and feudal customs. The important aspect that shows the value of Jang’s novel is the awareness of sexuality secured by women and the objective look on the economic utility of the body. In the capitalist market of the 1960’s, when the neo-patriarchal ideology and economic logics prevailed, women's chastity was evaluated as the value of exchangeable commodities. This is coherent with the discourse of entertainment in the 1960’s when the social, cultural and political atmosphere asked for the ‘cultivation’ of women. Therefore, the “Underground Women’s College” is considered as the work that projects the ‘consciousness of artist’ of the times which fiercefully stands against the 'ethical consciousness' which affects the aesthetic attributes of popular literature and its basis and unpeaceful social trend through the diversity of 'sexuality.'
