This study on self-reflection and self-development competency as core competencies and analyzes their realization pattern for learning activities in Korean-language textbooks for fifth and sixth graders in elementary school. To this end, this study prepared an analysis framework by referring to the 2015 and 2022 revised Korean-language curriculum documents and existing prior studies that examined the concept of “reflection” in the context of Korean-language education. The analysis framework considered the object of reflection, the level or focus of reflection, the timing, scope domain, and activity method, and each sub-detailed element was set. Based on the results, learning activities were analyzed using six units, three in the fifth grade and, three in the sixth grade, self-reflection and self-development competency in Korean-language textbooks.The results confirmed that learning activities that encourage recalling one’s life and experiences through introspection, were concentrated on non-reference activities concerning others and the world, activities to facilitate reflection-in-action were lacking. Diversifying and hierarchizing how learners realize self-reflection and self-development competency using textbooks is necessary to ensure that this realization has continuous real-world application outside the classroom.
