Number: pap. n. 26

Author(s) : OKU T., SATOH H., SHIGA M., et al.

Summary

This paper presents the development of a large capacity scroll compressor for a hydrocarbon natural refrigerant applied to a high temperature heat pump system. FEM analyses for gas compression mechanism and electro-magnetic fields in a 20 kW IPM motor were done to determine the scroll and its auxiliary mechanisms' configurations, then machine elements tests were also done under the specified working conditions at around 120°C discharge temperature. Proto-type scroll compressors were manufactured with the motor operated at 4800 min-1, 150 cm3/rev aluminum orbiting scroll and explosion proof cast iron casing. Finally, the test unit utilizing this compressor was developed to obtain actual compressor performance and reliability.
