Résumé

According to the regulations and legislative acts adopted by the European Union which results in the successive phase-outs of CFCs and HCFCs and the phase-down of HFCs, the use of natural refrigerants as working fluid of heat pumps has been under significant development. Although propane is highly flammable, it can be an interesting choice for heat pump employing proper safety measures in place as it has a very low GWP and also zero ODP. In this study, a large capacity water-water heat pump operated with propane as a refrigerant is studied in heating mode, i.e. production of hot water for space heating. The energy performance of the system under different working conditions is investigated and the experimental results were employed for exergy analysis of the heat pump. The irreversibility due to heat transfer and friction for each component of the heat pump is considered and the contribution of each component on total irreversibility are studied. A modelling software is employed to simulate the performance of the heat pump and the results are compared with experimental ones.
