본 논문은 최근 관심을 끌고 있는 인성교육이 학교 현장에서 적정하게 이루어지기 위한 전제 조건으로서 도덕과에서의 쟁점에 관한 논의이다. 이를 위하여 가장 먼저 도덕과에서 인성교육의 역사적 고찰이 필요하다는 점에서 도덕과 교육과정 속의 인성교육 역사를 다루었다. 그리고 도덕과 인성교육을 위해 다양한 문제들이 존재할 수 있지만, 우선적으로 고려되어야 할 중요 문제들을 논의하였다. 그러한 쟁점으로 다음의 세 가지를 설정하였다. 첫째, 인성, 인성교육의 개념 정의 문제였다. 인성에 대한 사전적, 심리학적, 교육학적 의미를 살펴보면서, 인성은 실천적 의미에서 인간성(또는 인간다움:humanities)으로 정의 내릴 필요가 있음을 주장하였다. 둘째, 인성교육의 교과 주체성의 문제를 다루었다. 범교과 학습의 실효성 문제를 제기하면서 중심 교과로 도덕과가 설정될 필요가 있음을 주장하였다. 셋째, 인성교육에 대한 교화(indoctrination)의 문제를 다루었다. 교육에서 교화는 필연적인 속성의 하나로 생각할 수 있지만, 방법과 의도가 올바르고 도덕적인 전제에서 이루어지는 것이라면 덕목에 대한 합의와 수용 가능성을 전제로 가능한 접근이라고 피력하였다. 이러한 주장의 핵심 의도는 도덕과 교육과정이 강조하고 있는 인성교육의 정당화를 확보하는데 일조하기 위함이다.
This study is one of the attempts to investigate the issues on the humanities education in the moral subject education. For the purpose of this goal, first of all I treated the historical approach of humanities education in the moral subject education curriculum. And then, I treated the important issues on the humanities education in the relation to the moral subject education. I proposed the humanities as the definition in the view point of practice. Second, I treated the problem of main subject which would have to take charge of humanities education. I naturally empathized that the moral subject should take charge of humanities education. Third, I treated the indoctrination in the humanities education. I expect that this study should be contributed to the development of the humanities education in the relation to the moral subject education.
