Abstract:
Jojoba (Simmondsia chinesis) is a salt tolerant evergreen perennial shrub native to the Sonoran Desert. We are using Differential Display Reverse Transcriptase Polymerase Chain Reaction (DDRT-PCR) to isolate NaCl regulated genes from jojoba variety 64, by comparing genes expressed in nodal segments grown in cultures in the absence or presence of NaCl. We have isolated several cDNA clones representing genes whose expression is either increased or decreased by the salt treatment.
