| Abstract:
It was studied the effects of the rate of active ingredient per ha., volume of water and date of application of the preemergence herbicide thiazopyr (pyridine family) on growth of one year old olive trees cv. 'Picual'. Two experiments were conducted to study rates of a.i. (untreated, 0.72, 1.44, and 2.88 kg/ha) volume of water (20, 200 and 800 l/ha) and time of application (winter and spring). Thiazopyr showed good selectivity for young olive 'Picual' plants. Thirty one days after treatment, plants showed less growth when treated with the herbicide corresponding, generally, the lower growth to the higher rates of a.i., but 60 days after treatment there were no differences in growth among treatments dealing to shoot length, fresh and dry weight of plants. Reffering to volume of water applied, plants treated with 20 l/ha showed less growth and less fresh and dry weight of shoots. Finally, there were no differences when treatments were applied in winter or in spring. | |
