Abstract:
The cultivar breeding program in Israel consists of about 10,000 different seedlings originating from both controlled crosses, by caging trees under nets, and open pollination. The rootstock project has been designed to develop rootstocks tolerant to calcareous soils and saline water. The project includes selection and assessment plots. The application of DNA fingerprints to mango enables the identification of various cultivars and rootstocks. Autoradiograms depicting various patterns of DNA fingerprints, are presented.
