Abstract:
PNRV and ApMV are two viruses found associated with viral symptoms of almond trees. Two plants showing symptoms of mosaic and line pattern, naturally infected by ApMV and PNRV respectively, were selected to investigate the role of seeds in the epidemiology of these Ilarviruses.

Seeds were collected at eight different periods and tested for ApMV and PNRV by the direct ELISA system.

When possible, epicarp, mesocarp, endocarp, teguments and cotyledons were assayed separately.

Results allow us to affirm that PNRV, even if in different percentage, is always present in cotyledons and teguments until the end of the growing season, whereas ApMV is not detectable any more at the end of July.

Seeds collected from PNRV infected plant, stored at 4° under sand and then sown in greenhouse, gave about 9% infected seedlings.
