ISHS Acta Horticulturae 64: Symposium on Production of Potted Plants and Cut Flowers

METHODS AND PROBLEMS OF CLONAL PROPAGATION OF BROMELIADS IN VITRO

Authors:   K. Zimmer, W. Pieper
DOI:   10.17660/ActaHortic.1976.64.3
Abstract:
Propagation of Aechmeas in vitro is possible with following method: After starting with axillary buds of lateral shoots in liquid medium we defoliate the plantlets and use plantlets and leaves. In both cases, calluslike bodies and a lot of new shoots were formed. Rate of propagation will be about 1:10 per month in a liquid Knudson-C-medium with 10% bleeding sap of birch tree and 1 ppm benzylaminopurine.

Unfortunately, uniformity of offsprings will decrease with age of subculture: a lot of different chimerical types of plants may occur.
