| Abstract:
Populations of Cornelian cherry (Cornus mas L.) represent an important genetic stock in the area of the Drvar valley. An ethnobotanical study and pomological analysis of the fruit were performed for 10 selected genotypes. Twenty-six respondents participated in the study. The ethnobotanical questionnaire consisted of four parts and 22 questions. The average age of the respondents was 65, of which 76.92% were men and 23.08% were women. The number of trees on the house holding of the respondents ranged from 5 to 317. Of the total number of trees, 53.85% were wild, 38.46% were trees obtained from selected seeds, while only 7.69% of trees originated from young plants. The highest average fruit mass was observed in Gen1 DV genotype (3.33 g), in which the highest fruit/fruit flesh ratio (90.05%) was also registered. The total average content of soluble dry matter ranged from 14.50 to 17.29%. The average mass of fruit flesh ranged from 2.19 to 2.16 g. Future research of Cornelian cherry in this area should be directed toward the selection of large-fruited genotypes from natural populations in order to examine them in conditions with the application of cultural practices and to select an appropriate growing system, as well as for breeding. | |
