Abstract:
Studies on the strawberry fruit composition have been increased because of bioactive properties, mainly focusing on anthocyanins and phenolic compounds, which affect the human health.
The objective of the present work was to evaluate the anthocyanin and the total phenolic content in two strawberry cultivars produced under different shading screens in a protected greenhouse.
The experiment was designed as randomized complete blocks with three replicates and 20 plants per parcel.
Greater sugar and total phenolic contents were observed in the ‘Oso Grande’ and ‘Camarosa’ cultivar fruits in November.
With the use of shading screens, ‘Camarosa’ fruits show more anthocyanins contents when compared to the ‘Oso Grande’. Thus, in the absence of shading screens the production is similar.
