본 연구는 2020~2023년 한·중 "가장 아름다운 책" 공모전 수상작의 표지 디자인에 초점을 맞추고, 서적표지 디자인의 시각적 요소에 중점을 두었다. 본 연구의 목적은 한·중 수상작 표지 디자인의 특징과 차이점을 분석하여, 한·중 서적 표지 디자인 스타일과 심미적 선호도를 밝히는 것이다. 기존 연구와 이론적 조사를 바탕으로 타이포그래피, 이미지, 색채 3가지 시각적 요소에 대한 분석 프레임워크를 구축하고 사례분석을 이행하였다. 연구결과에 따르면 첫째, 한·중수상작의 표지 디자인은 타이포그래피, 이미지, 색채활용에 약간의 차이가 있음을 알 수 있었다. 한국 수상작 표지는 가로 방향으로 되어있고, 전면적인 그래픽 사용은 적으며, 색채는 역동성과 대비에 중점을 둔반면, 중국 수상작 표지 표제는 상단 오른쪽에 위치해 있고, 일러스트레이션 그래픽을 많이 사용하였으며, 색채는 더 우아하고 부드러운 컬러를 사용하였다. 둘째, 한국은 사실적이고 단순하며 색채 다양성에 중점을 두어 보완색 또는 충돌색 디자인을 채택하고 사진, 간단한 그래픽 또는 서적 표제 텍스트를 사용하여 표지를 구성하는 경향이 있음을 알 수 있다. 반면 중국은 단색 또는 유사한 색을 선호하고, 일반적으로 컬러를 적게 사용하거나 대량의 여백을 남기기 위해 큰 색채 블록을 사용하였다. 이러한 차이는 시각 디자인에 대한 양국의 문화적, 미적 선호도를 반영하였음을 알 수 있다. 이러한 연구결과를 바탕으로 디자이너와 출판사에게 서적 표지 디자인에 대한 참고 자료를 제공하고, 디자인 문화 교류를 위한 기초 자료를 제공함으로써 향후 서적 표지 디자인에 더욱 다양한 가능성을 제공할 것으로 기대된다.

This study focused on the cover design of the winners of the 2020-2023 Korea-China "Best Book Design From" contest, and focused on the visual elements of book cover design. The purpose of this study is to analyze the characteristics and differences between Korean and Chinese award-winning book cover designs and reveal the design styles and aesthetic preferences of Korean and Chinese book covers. Based on existing research and theoretical investigation, an analysis framework for three visual elements, typography, image, and color, was established and case analysis was performed. According to the research results, first, it was found that the cover designs of the Korean and Chinese award-winning works had slight differences in typography, images, and use of color. The Korean winner"s cover is horizontally oriented, uses less all-out graphics, and focuses on dynamism and contrast in color, while the Chinese winner"s title is located at the top right, uses a lot of illustration graphics, and uses color. More elegant and soft colors were used. Second, it can be seen that Korea tends to focus on realistic, simple, and color diversity, adopting complementary or clashing color designs, and using photos, simple graphics, or book title text to compose covers. On the other hand, China prefers a single color or similar colors, and generally uses less color or uses large blocks of color to leave a large amount of white space. It can be seen that these differences reflect the two countries" cultural and aesthetic preferences for visual design. Based on these research results, it is expected to provide designers and publishers with reference materials for cover design and provide basic data for design cultural exchange, providing more diverse possibilities for book cover design in the future.
