Complex is a problem for everyone. From the perspective of psychoanlaysis, it has to do with issues like shame and guilt. And they are the ones for producing diseases and accidents for people. How can we deal with them? Christians believe that faith can help a person to transform the complex into the energy of success and creation.
Psychoanalysts argue the same thing. According to them, complex can be transformed into the source of energy. In general, complex brings about the tensions, which result in all the problems physical and social. However, once a person work out the shame and guilt issues, the use of complex energy can be changed from malfunctioning to good-functioning. How to do that? This work is an attempt to find out the ways of making such transformation possible. By reviewing the works of psychoanalysts and philosophers, this paper lists all the ‘know-hows’.
First, analysts like Freud, Klein, Bion and others uses the technique of “making the unconscious conscious with free association,” “the working through of mourning about one’s losses,” and “Alpha function.” Especially, Bionists like Grostzein put an emphasis on the work of discovering “symbols, concepts and truths” about one’s complex- related incidents, which would help the person to establish a sense of order and peace in the midst of confusion and entropy originated by one’s complex. Arnold Mindell wellknown for his work of integration between quantum physics and analytical psychology explains the transformation of complex through the metaphor of “Black hole” and “Conjugational work.” Philosophers like Lacan, Christeva, and Zizek regards as imprtant the concepts like “identification with symptoms,” “a sublime object of ideology,” “catharsis of tragedy,” and “understading of perplexed codes.” Deleuz and Guattari introduce the concepts like “rizzome,” ‘deterrritorialization,“ and ”schizoanalysis“ for explaining the transcendental change of complex energy tension. And Kohut explains the power of ”bipolar self“ and ”tension-arc“ which create on-going spiritual energy. Finally, I propose a concept of ”the marriage between signifiers and affects“ for increasing the spirit. The pathological tension energy originated from shame and guilt turns out to be the productive energy like gratitude and ideals if one go through these inner psychological working-outs.
