투기는 모든 인간이 보편적으로 경험하는 감정/행위이지만, 조선에서는 여성만의 도덕적 굴레가 되어 다양한 담론과 문화적 의미를 산출하였다. 투기는 중국 고전에서부터 문제가 되었다. 여성 특유의 감정/행위로 인식되었고, 가족・나라의 안녕, 자손의 번성 등을 위해 투기하지 않는 것이 옳으며, 투기할 경우 자식에게 해가 되거나 가족 혹은 나라가 망할 수도 있다는 가능성을 제시하였다. 또한 칠거지악을 통해 구속력을 강화하기도 했다. 이러한 내용들이 조선에서 본격적으로 현실화되었던 것이다.
투기를 여성만의 부도덕한 감정/행위로 규정하고 있지만, 남성들에게도 투기의 감정/행위가 없었던 것이 아니다. 여성의 투기 사건과 비슷한 형태로 존재했고, 그 이면에는 남성의 욕망이 적나라하게 드러나기도 한다. 다만, 투기를 문제 삼지 않음으로써 남성의 투기는 용인되어 갔던 것이다.
투기가 여성만 경험하는 감정/행위가 된 것은 성적 욕망이 남녀에게 보편적이라는 사실을 상기할 때 분명 비대칭적인 것이다. 이는 남성의 여성에 대한 권력의 집행이라고 할 수 있다. 투기를 윤리도덕의 영역으로 끌어들여 투기를 여성만의 윤리도덕의 범주로 설정한 것, 그것을 하나의 담론으로 만들어가는 과정 자체가 남성의 여성에 대한 권력의 집행과정인 것이다.

It was recognized as a woman-specific emotion, and it suggested a possibility that women should not be jealous of the well-being of their family and country, jealousy can hurt your child or ruin your family or country, also strengthened its binding force through the seven valid causes for divorce. These things became reality in Joseon Dynasty. Although jealousy is defined as immoral feelings/activities of women, but it's not that men had no feelings of jealousy, either. Men's jealousy was similar to women's jealousy, and behind it is men's desire. However, man's jealousy was covered up without taking matters into consideration. It is certainly asymmetrical that jealousy has become a woman's only feelings/activities, when I recall that sexual desire is common in men and women. This can be said that men practiced power over women. What men have set jealousy as the moral domain and what makes it the morality of women, is the process in which men enforce power on women.
