산업기술 수준별 수출품목 구성 변화가 국제화물 운송수단 활용에 미친 영향

2000년대 이후 한국 수출을 사례로

Purpose This study seeks to understand the changes in the structure of the Korean export industry and the composition of export items since the 2000’s and analyze the effects of these changes on the international freight transportation mode choice pattern. Design/Methodology/Approach All yearly exports of Korea during the period of 2000~2019 were aggregated into 6 units of HS codes (published by WCO). The freight transportation mode choice pattern was analyzed by dividing these into four (4) manufacturing groups according to the industrial technology level of ISTANS (operated by the Korean government). Findings Due to the difference in the export industrial technology level and the change in the composition ratio of the export structure of Korea, the international freight transportation mode competition between air and maritime has been intensifying since the 2000’s. In particular, this phenomenon is found to be led by the mid-high and mid-low levels of industrial technology-related export industries. Research Implications The international freight transport mode choice methods vary greatly depending on the national export structure and the industrial technology level of export products. Freight transport mode competition between air and maritime is expected to accelerate in the future due to intensifying competition in the global supply chain.
