This study analyzed the effect of social capital on innovative and organizational citizenship behavior. We further examined how organizational justice perception moderated the relationship between social capital and innovative and organizational citizenship behavior. In doing so, we attempted to reveal the importance of understanding the value of social capital, particularly in the Chinese context where business relationships or Guanxi are emphasized. Using survey data from 195 employees in China, we found that employees’ social capital was positively related to innovative behavior as well as organizational citizenship behavior. In addition, these relationships were moderated by perceived organizational justice. The results suggest the importance of understanding the role of social capital in Chinese business context given its relationship with the types of employee behavior that are crucial in today’s fast-paced business environment.
