This paper is analyzing festivals of the Shimanto riverside community in Japan. It’s aim is to think about festivity as the assemblage. At first, I described the major features of the each festival within spatial levels like local/regional/realm areas. For the further understanding of that, I mentioned its several features and pointed out through more specific description of its ceremonial and periodical process. The dynamics of Japanese Matsuri festivals are dealt with segmentary system. But, I think that it is very crucial to grasp the concept of ‘assemblage’ instead of ‘representation’. Because of the traditional concepts about festivity like ‘confirmation of identity’, ‘representation of historical event’, “transition of daily’, we can’t make flight from stratification. For the comprehensive understanding of the assemblage, I am using of several concepts like machinic assemblage(=content)/assemblage of enunciation(=expression) and territorialization(re-territorialization)/de-territorialization and difference/differentiation. In the conclusion, I pointed out the ‘Becoming festival’ as the ethics and practice of minorities.
