본 연구의 목적은 대학생 문제도박의 위험요인인 사회적 역기능과 문제음주가 도박의 습관화 경로를 거쳐 문제도박 심각성에 영향을 미치는지 탐색하고자 하는 것이다. 이를 위하여 문제도박 경로모델을 적용하여 연구모형을 설정하였고, 변인 간의 관계를 구조방정식모형을 사용하여 분석하였다. 연구표본은 편의추출방법으로 확보한 대전지역의 남녀 대학생 368명 가운데, 자기기입식 설문지를 통해 지난 1년간 도박 경험이 있다고 응답한 171명이었다. 연구결과, 사회적 역기능과 문제음주 모두 습관성 도박의 지표인 도박빈도를 경로로 하여 문제도박 심각성에 유의한 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 이와 같은 결과는 대학생 문제도박의 선별에 있어서 도박문제뿐 아니라 도박빈도 혹은 습관화 양상을 함께 파악하고, 예방 및 개입에 있어서 정신건강 및 물질남용 서비스와의 통합적인 서비스 제공이 이루어질 필요가 있음을 시사한다. 연구결과를 바탕으로 대학생 문제도박의 예방과 조기개입 및 치유를 위한 실천적 함의를 논의하였다.

As the availability and accessibility of legalized gambling has increased in Korea, more people are participating in gambling. Some studies have indicated that problem gambling is more prevalent among college students than among other adult population. Until recent, there has been a few systematic research with theoretical background on gambling behavior among this population. This study tested a path model between core variables, such as social dysfunction, problem drinking, frequency of gambling, and problem gambling, within the framework of Pathways Model. The Pathways Model propose that three subgroups of problem gamblers: pathway 1. behaviorally conditioned problem gamblers; pathway 2. emotionally vulnerable problem gamblers; and pathway 3. ‘antisocial impulsivist’ problem gamblers. These subgroups can be identified by the core factors. A sample of 171 college students who have experienced on gambling behavior during the last 12 months was recruited using a convenient sampling method and was requested to complete the survey questionnaire. Statistical analysis using structural equation modeling shows the significant pathways among social dysfunction/problem drinking, frequency of gambling, and problem gambling. Suggestions for future research and practical implications for prevention and intervention are discussed.
