Chiou ABSTRACT Spray cooling is a very effective heat transfer mode. In this study, a staggered tube bundle including seven heater tubes arranged in three levels was subjected to overhead spray; a liquid collector was specifically designed and installed on each tube to wet the surfaces, which could have had difficulty in receiving the direct spray. The heat transfer performance can be greatly improved by the installation of a liquid collector. In order to determine the proper gap size between the tube surface and the liquid collector, tests are conducted to examine the influence of different gap sizes. Results indicated that the size with Bond number less than 1.0 might encounter an early dryout during a higher heat flux rate.
