Heat Transfer and Flow Resistance of Yawed Tube Bundle Heat Exchangers
ABSTRACT
Experimental results are reported which have been found-out at an in-line tube bank in the Reynolds number range 2 × 103 < Re < 105 . The yaw angle was varied between 15° ≤ φ ≤ 90° (cross flow). Entrance effects have been studied as well as the influence of an opposite inclination of neighbored tubes. The tests have shown that the principle of independence can be applied to predict the heat transfer coefficient of yawed tube banks. However, it is not suitable to describe the hydraulic resistance. Generally the hydraulic resistance coefficient increases with smaller yaw angles in the subcritical Reynolds number range. Besides, the dependence on the Reynolds number varies with the yaw angle.
