    ABSTRACT

It has been shown that under conditions of high flowage, prevalence of sandy-pebble bottom grounds and weak overgrowth, which are peculiar of unregulated sections of the Volga River, the areas for spawning of phytophilous fishes are rather limited. Especially low was natural reproduction of bream. Efficiency of fish spawning depended on hydro-meteorological conditions of a year. It is emphasized that a level of development of planktonic and benthic fauna under conditions existed in the river is extremely low.
