본 연구는 2014년부터 전국의 초·중등학교에 점진·확대 적용되고 있는 디지털교과서 서비스 중, 디지털교과서 뷰어의 개발과 사용성 평가에 그 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 관련 문헌과 함께, 국내·외 디지털교과서 뷰어와 관련한 사례를 분석하고, 2008-2012 동안 운영된 디지털교과서 연구학교의 요구 사항을 정리하였다. 이를 통해 디지털교과서 뷰어 설계를 위한 7가지 원리를 제안하고 이에 기초해 개발된 신규 뷰어를 제시하였다. 본 연구에서 도출된 7가지의 설계 원리를 살펴보면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 언제, 어디서나 활용 가능한 환경을 지원해야 한다. 둘째, 학습활동 데이터에 대한 이력 관리를 지원해야 한다. 셋째, 상호작용을 지원하는 학습 도구 및 풍부한 자료를 제공해야 한다. 넷째, 확장성을 고려한 교수학습 도구 및 자료를 제공해야 한다. 다섯째, 표준화된 문서(File Formats)를 지원해야 한다. 여섯째, 학교/교실 인터넷 환경에서 활용 가능해야 한다. 일곱째, 지속적인 유지 관리의 편리성을 지원해야 한다. 이 후, 휴리스틱 방법을 활용한 뷰어의 사용성 평가를 통해 UX/UI 관점에서의 문제점을 진단하고 주요 개선 사항 및 디지털교과서의 향후 발전 방향을 위한 시사점을 제시하였다. 향후 본 연구 결과를 토대로 보다 체계적이고 안정적인 디지털교과서 서비스가 제공되길 기대한다.

This study aims to develop and test an usability of a Digital Textbook Viewer which has been serviced across the country since 2014, for K-12 education. To meet this, this study summarizes the primary requirements based on analysis of related literatures, various viewers and requests from schools which use the digital textbook. Based on these primary requirements, this study proposes principles to design and develop of the Digital Textbook Viewer. The 7 principles for the design of viewer are proposed as following: First, it can be used anytime, anywhere. Second, it should support learning analysis systems using learning activity data. Third, it should provide enriched learning resources and learning tools for interaction. Fourth, it should take into account the scalability features of learning tools and resources. Fifth, it should support standardized document file formats. Sixth, it should provide functional features such as school internet environments. Seventh, it should be designed for ease of use and maintenance. After then, with the usability test by heuristic evaluation, this study tries to see whether the digital textbook is appropriate to use or not. Finally, this study suggests implications for improvements and future direction of Digital Textbook. Based on these results, more systematic and reliable digital textbook services are expected for K-12 education.
