Abstract: Objective:To probe the relationship between the level of plasma homocysteine(Hcy) and recurrent cerebral infarction. Methods:The level of plasma homocysteine was detected in 245 patients suffered from acute cerebral infarction.According to the level of plasma homocysteine, patients were divided into hyperhomocysteinemia(Hhcy) group and normal homocysteinemia(NHcy) group. The recurrence of cerebral infarction of both groups was observed during a follow-up of 6 months. Results:There were 96 patients with elevated level of plasma homocysteine in the Hhcy group. Then, the other 149 patients were put into the NHcy group. The two groups had no statistical difference in general information such as age, gender, hypertension, diabetes,BMI and NIHSS score(P >0.05).While the recurrent rate of the Hhcy group was 11.4% and significantly higher than that of the NHcy group(P <0.05),which was 4.7%.Conclusion:Hyperhomocysteinemia can increase the possibility of recurrent after previous cerebral infarction.
