Abstract: Fumigating tests were conducted to study the resistance of three clove species(Syringa microphylla,S.pekinensis and S.wordii) in response to automobile exhaust. The three clove species were exposed to different concentrations of exhaust gas(20,30,40,50,60 μg·m-3 NO2) in an open-top chamber, fumigated for the same amount of time(6 h).They were also fumigated under the same exhaust gas concentrations(40 μg·m-3 NO2) for different amount of time(1,3,5 d).The changing trends of chlorophyll a and b content and ratio of chlorophyll a to chlorophyll b,relative conductivity, malondialdehyde(MDA) content, superoxide dismutase(SOD) activity, proxidase(POD) activity and proline(Pro) content were analyzed under the two treatments, and the correlations between SOD activity and other 5 physiological indexes were also discussed. Results showed that each index presented an obviously different trend under the two treatments. There are negative correlations between SOD and ratio of chlorophyll a to chlorophyll b and MDA content, and positive correlation between SOD and relative conductivity. The membership function of Fuzzy mathematical analysis suggested that the resistance of the three clove species to automobile exhaust were ranked from high to low as S.microphylla,S.pekinensis and S.wordii.
