Abstract: A pot experiment was conducted for one-year-old Lonicera maackii seedlings to study the effect of NaHCO3 stress on photosynthetic characters and fluorescence parameters of L. maackii seedlings at different stress stages. Three treatment groups ( mild stress, moderate stress and severe stress; 180 total seedlings) and one control group ( without stress; 60 total seedlings) were established. Results showed that NaHCO3 stress decreased the net photosynthetic rate ( Pn) . Under the control and mild stress,long-time stress stage exhibited the highest Pn of L. maackii seedlings, followed by short-time and middle-time stress stages in order, while the chlorophyll fluorescence parameters changed a little at different stages. Under moderate stress, the Pn was the highest at short-time stress stage and the lowest at long-time stress stage, and the minimal fluorescence ( Fo) at short-time stress stage increased by 6. 8% ,and ratio of variable to maximum fluorescence ( Fv /Fm) decreased by 5. 8% ,while the Fo at long-time stress stage increased by 17. 1% ,and Fv /Fm decreased by 8. 5% . Under severe stress, the Pn at short-time stage was the highest, which was 124. 7% higher than that at long-time stress stage, and the water use efficiency of the former was about 1. 95 times as high as that of the latter; the Fo at short-time stage increased by 9. 9% ,and Fv /Fm decreased by 10. 2% ,while the Fo at long-time stage increased by 36. 2% ,and Fv /Fm decreased by 20. 1% . It is indicated that there is a close correlation between the stress stage and the effect of NaHCO3 stress on photosynthetic characters and chlorophyll fluorescence parameters.
