Abstract: Objective To explore the effects of parathyroid hormone( PTH) on health-related quality of life in uremic maintenance hemodialysis patients. Methods Eighty-eight uremic patients treated with hemodialysis were divided into three groups according to iPTH level:iPTH > 800 pg / ml group(n = 31),iPTH 300- 800 pg / ml group(n = 27),iPTH 150- 299 pg / ml group(n = 30). Healthrelated quality of life( HRQOL) was estimated with the KDQOL-SFTMquestionnaire and score methods provided by Hays. Results The scores in iPTH > 800 pg / ml and iPTH 300- 800 pg / ml groups were lower on the overall health rating(OHR),symptom / problem list(SPL),effects of kidney disease(EKD),cognitive function(CF),sleep,SF- 36,physical function(PF),role-physical(RP),body pain(BP),vitality(VT)than those in iPTH150-299 pg/ml group(P <0.01 or P <0.05). The scores were lower in iPTH >800 pg/ml group than in iPTH 300- 800 pg / ml group on PF,RP,and general health(GH)(P < 0. 01 or P < 0. 05). Conclusion With the increase of parathyroid hormone, the quality of life decrease in uremic maintenance hemodialysis patients with secondary hyperparathyroidism.
