Abstract: "Tao-admiration" is an important cultural phenomenon in Chinese ancient history of literature and thought. Two aspects may illustrate it:the later men of letters spoke highly of Tang Yuanming’s lofty moral character and his returning to the rural life as a hermit; the happy life as a hermit and his peace of mind reflected in his pastoral poetry has aroused high applause. The historical development of "Tao-admiration" complex reflects the deep influence of Taosim’s hermit culture on Chinese men of letters and the central reflection of the Confucianism-Taoism complementation.
