Abstract: In modern times when traditional culture and modern culture are having more contact and conflicts, how to avoid losing local culture and self while marching towards the modern world is a focus of concern. The difficult meaning shift of Yunnan minority patterns in modern design relies on the dramatic changes of their cultural bases.Yunnan minority patterns are only a cultural element in modern design, whose existence and application are only at the level of "adding brilliance to splendor".Thus,it is necessary to create the local style of design in Yunnan for its innovation and sustainable development.
