Colony counts were obtained 3 days after infection with defined deletion mutants (103 CFU per mouse). Mean values were calculated for at least three mice per mutant, and compared with the mean TMDH attenuation score for the same gene. The plot shows a significant correlation, demonstrating that TMDH is an effective screen for identifying genes that are important for infection.
