Pretreatment with Brucella OMVs decreases the cytokine response of THP-1 cells to Brucella infection.

THP-1 cells were incubated or not with OMVs (0.1 to 10 µg/ml) for 4 h before infection with B. abortus (MOI 100) for 1 h. Cytokines were measured by commercial ELISAs in culture supernatants collected at 24 h p.i. Data shown are from one of three independent experiments done in duplicate, which yielded similar results. Asterisks indicate significantly different responses to infection between cells pretreated with OMVs and untreated cells (***, p<0.001, ANOVA followed by Tukey’s test).
